You may perhaps have noticed the diary was not often up-dated. The problems with an internet diary is one of veracity. Generally a diary is a personal thing written for oneself. Thus writing a diary on the Internet is a contradiction. On the other hand, writing a fake diary to give the flavour of "A Year in Seana" or "The Orange Groves of Syracusa" is dishonest and unsatisfying. So, we hope that changing the title from "Diary" to "News" will make all the difference and that we will find news, comment and reflection sufficient to fill these pages. As I write this Sunday evening we are experiencing a heatwave of some proportions. The night brings some respite as temperatures drop and a cool breeze picks up but the morning's sun-strike leaves us panting for air. Everything here is dry. Luckily Friuli so far has not been cursed by forest fires but the woods are dry as kindling. The advantage of this weather, on the other hand, isd that from a holiday-maker's point of view every day is perfect! The sky is blue, normally cold mountain rivers run tepid and white wine under the pergola seems so very inviting.
